I knew David only since I joined Thirsk Rotary Club less than three years ago but during that time I gradually got to know him especially when he joined me, together with Bob Turner, on the newly created Foundation Committee. His much longer membership of Rotary than mine meant his counsel was wise and I greatly valued his support. I also felt David a soul-mate after discovering he came from Rotherham, a district I worked in when employed 1974/86 by the former South Yorkshire County Council. I shall miss his lively wit and wry humour, often masked by a very straight face typical of that part of the world. May he rest in peace.
